President's Message

Dear La Raza Lawyers Association members and friends,

I am honored to be the 2009 President of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association.  I have been an active member of this dynamic organization since law school, where I served as TJSL's La Raza Student Association President for two years. As a past scholarship recipient, I appreciate the importance of supporting our law students, which is a big part of our mission.

We also exist to advance the cause of equality, empowerment and justice for Latino attorneys and the Latino community in San Diego County through service and advocacy. We are dedicated to promoting diversity on both the bench and bar. Our membership consists of attorneys, judges, students, law professors, and community members who share our vision of a compassionate and diverse society working together on important legal and social issues. Our members hail from various socio-economic, political, racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and this diversity means we have a range of opinions and experiences to draw from, which is a great benefit to our membership and extensive network.

I look forward to working with a group of 15 fellow boardmembers, who come from both the private and public sector, and who are dedicated to working as a team to accomplish our many goals. We have many new faces on our board, and it is an exciting time to be a part of La Raza Lawyers, especially since the birth of our 501(c)(3) Scholarship Fund, which allows us to offer tax exemptions for donations, opening many doors for our fundraising efforts, and in turn, our students.

My goals for the coming year include collaborating with other bar associations to promote our common interests. Another goal is fundraising for the growth of our scholarship fund through innovative programming. Last October, we celebrated  at our annual Scholarship Fund dinner and awards gala, and were able to showcase deserving students and established artists from SD, LA and Baja California, while at the same time raising funds to support deserving students."
