Openings for Judicial Officers
President Obama has asked for recommendations for a third position as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of California. Senator Barbara Boxer is responsible for making these recommendations, and is currently accepting applications. · The Bay Area Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (NLGSF) is now accepting applications for the Summer 2010 Thomas Steel Internship. The internship is 40 hours a week, part time with the NLGSF and part with the Trangender, Gender Variant and Intersex (TGI) Justice Project. The intern will have the opportunity to advocate for transgender, gender variant and/or intersex people facing criminal prosecution in the San Francisco Bay Area, to help them gain access to needed services rather than be sentenced to jail or prison. The intern will carry their own client load and be responsible for client cases from beginning to end, under the supervision of the director. The internship is based out of San Francisco, will last from June through August, and has a stipend of $5,000. Applicants should be law students who demonstrate a passion for social justice and commitment to public interest work. Past activist/organizing experience and involvement with the National Lawyers Guild a plus. People of color and members of the LGBTQ community strongly encouraged to apply. Summer Internship Program for 3L |

Travelers is recruiting for the 2010 Summer Associate Program. The program allows law students to work full time during the summer with one of the Travelers staff counsel offices. The program is growing. In 2009, 16 associates were involved in the program throughout the nation.
One of the highlights of the program has been a company-funded trip for the summer associates to Windsor, Connecticut where they tour Travelers’ Claim University and meet top executives within the company. |

Job Posting: Senior Corporate Counsel - "Biotech Company"

Transactions: The ideal candidate should have significant experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting a variety of complex transactions in the biotech/life science sector (including, but not limited to joint ventures, strategic partnering and collaboration arrangements).
The Sr. Corporate Counsel will provide guidance to junior attorneys on more standard agreements such as NDAs, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, certain license agreements, research agreements, manufacturing agreements and supply agreements.
Business Development: The ideal candidate will also have experience with business development transactions in the life sciences technology sector, such as technology licenses, complex collaboration arrangements and related funding transactions (e.g., equity investments, loans etc.).
The attorney will work closely with the General Counsel and Chief IP Counsel to support the company’s R&D and business development activities and transactions, including legal due diligence, contract analyses, business term sheets. |

The primary work will involve: (i) drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, ground leases, CC&Rs, and development and construction agreements; (ii) review of title documents and ALTA surveys; and (iii) managing real estate closings. The successful candidate must have a proven track record working on big box retail development, and in which he or she has demonstrated strong and effective communication skills and the ability to understand and synthesize legal, business and engineering imperatives in order to manage - from conception through completion of construction - complex retail development projects having long lead times.
