    The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Annual Conference is the largest gathering of the Hispanic community, serving as the meeting ground for more than 20,000 community organization leaders, activists, and volunteers; elected and appointed officials; members of corporate, philanthropic, and academic communities; senior citizens; college students; and youth. This annual event provides a forum for thousands of people representing a variety of sectors to learn about ongoing and emerging issues in the Hispanic community and become familiar with issues, initiatives, programs, and other efforts making a positive impact in the lives of Latino families and recognizing the strength and power of the Hispanic community. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help at this event, July 12-15 at the San Diego Convention Center, in exchange for free tickets to Conference special events or full conference registration.     Volunteer Requirements: 
    Any adult can provide NCLR with volunteer services Thursday, July 10-Tuesday, July 15 in exchange for free tickets to Conference special events. You must be on time, be dressed appropriately, and have worked the agreed-upon hours to receive your free tickets. Any one person who completes a total of 25 hours will receive a full Conference registration (value $650).

State Bar Court Review and Hearing Judges

"The California Supreme Court's Applicant Evaluation and Nomination Committee is seeking qualified candidates to serve as State Bar Court Review and Hearing Judges.  The  State Bar Cour is the independent, adjudicative entity acting as an administrative arm of the California Supreme Court to hear and decide attorney disciplinary and regulatory proceedings and to make recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding those matters.  The State Bar Court consists of a three-member Review Department and a Hearing Department composed of five full-time hearing judges in Los Angeles and San Francisco.  The Review Department is the appellate level of the State Bar Court.  The Hearing Department is the trial level of the State Bar Court.

One Review Judge and one Hearing Judge position will be filled.  The salary of the Review Judge is the same as judges of the Superior Court ($178,789 annually).  The Review Judge position is currently part time (60%) and is compensated on a pro-rata basis at $107,273 annually. The appointment will be a six-year term.  The salary of a State Bar Court Hearing Judge is $163, 274 per year.  This position will be located in the Los Angeles venue.  The appointment will be a six-year term."

Cuba Research Trip, July 23-30, 2008

Position Available:  Sony Electronics

Sony Electronics Inc. is seeking a director-level attorney to serve  primarily  as  content licensing /transactional /technology/general operations legal counsel for Sony's new  Business to Business of America Division, located at their corporate headquarters in San Diego as well as Los Angeles, CA.  Initial initiatives of this division include digital cinema and general content management and distribution hardware, services and software.  Responsibilities will include providing strategic legal advice, contract drafting, assisting with negotiation of all types of transactions, including, without limitation, inbound and outbound content and technology license and distribution agreements, OEM and procurement agreements, services agreements, as well as acquisition and joint venture agreements.  Although this position is primarily San Diego based, significant business travel to Los Angeles is anticipated. CANDIDATE PROFILE

In terms of professional requirements and experience, you should have:

  • JD degree and CA Bar
  • Minimum 6 years of related legal experience
  • Prior experience with business to business legal support and service
  • Experience drafting various contracts
  • Expertise in negotiating all types of transactions (such as inbound and outbound content and technology licenses, distribution agreements, OEM and procurement agreements, services agreements, and acquisition and joint venture agreements)
  • Previous experience in a technology environment preferred
